Can I use the same soy wax to make container candles and pillar (moulded) candle

Today we're talking about a question we receive very often from those who are approaching the world of artisanal candles for the first time: Can I use the same soy wax for container candles and for those poured into moulds? 🤔

The answer is... unfortunately no! 😅

Even though it is always soy wax, the two types have completely different characteristics, designed for specific purposes. Let's see them in detail!

🕯️ Soy wax for containers

This type of wax is formulated to adhere perfectly to the container walls, keeping the candle securely anchored inside.
Furthermore, thanks to its reduced melting point, during combustion it will tend to create more liquid wax, which will help better diffuse the fragrance into the environment 🌿

🕯️ Soy wax for moulds (Pillars)

Candles made with moulds have the opposite needs.
Here, a wax is needed that easily detaches from the mould once solidified and has a very high melting point, so as not to produce too much liquid wax during combustion (thus avoiding pools of melted wax at the base of the candle!). Essentially, it is a "harder" and more crystalline wax, whose purpose is to remain solid during combustion.

🕯️ Two waxes, two different needs

As you may have understood, the properties required for the two waxes are the exact opposite!
For this reason, it is best to be wary of soy waxes sold as "universal" or "multi-purpose": they often do not offer optimal results for either type.

And finally, on our e-commerce you can find both types of soy wax:

  • The "standard soy wax" and the "EU soy wax" are both for containers.
  • The "soy wax for moulds", on the other hand, is ideal for creating candles with particular shapes or decorations in a mould!

Happy crafting! 😍
